Former Inter striker Nicola Ventola shared his thoughts and feelings of the Inter that has been seen this season in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Inter are thinking only about themselves. There has been so many changes and they have not surprised me as they have a quality team, the best in recent years in fact. They can reach the top of Europe again and have an important project.

“Are Inter the anti-Juve? As an Interista, I’m sorry to say, but maybe Juventus is the best team in Europe. Juventus started on their path a few years ago while the Nerazzurri is at the beginning of theirs.”

Ventola, who was a striker during his playing days, then spoke on Inter striker Mauro Icardi.

He is among the top players in Europe in the box and he proved it against Barcelona with a goal. He is not a player who knows how to do everything but he can complete himself. There are lots and lots of pros to his game and if the team needs a goal, a goal from him is certain. Would he have played at Inter when I did? No. There was Ronaldo and Vieri but he would have been an impressive alternative.”

He concluded the interview by discussing Inter manager Luciano Spalletti and Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini ahead of the two clubs meeting this weekend in Bergamo.

“They are both high-level coaches and among the best in Italy. Spalletti is in to changing players but never the system. Gasperini, especially in the defeats, could have done with changing players though, and if I have to chose, I prefer the first. If I were still playing I would struggle in the 4-2-3-1 of Spalletti but do better in the 3-4-3 Gasperini uses as I did not like playing alone.”
