On this day 53 years ago, a Sandro Mazzola and Giacinto Facchetti inspired Inter bounced back from a shock 2-1 first leg defeat to Dinamo Bucharest, FCInterNews.it have recalled.

The Romanian’s won the first game on home soil but were unable to record another victory when they came to Milan. Sandro Mazzola put Inter 1-0 up 22 minutes in to the second leg while Facchetti would score in the 89th minute to secure Inter a 3-2 aggregate victory and passage in to the European Cup quarter-finals.

Inter would then get the better of Hungarian side Ferencvaros but would come undone at the semi-final stage as they lost out to eventual winners Real Madrid who ended the Nerazzurri’s hopes of back-to-back European Cup titles. Los Blancos recorded a 1-0 victory over Inter in Milan and then secured a 1-1 draw in the second leg to secure themselves a place in the final where they would beat Serbian side Partizan Belgrade at the Heysel Stadium in Belgium.
