Inter chief executive Alessandro Antonello reflected on the past year for Inter on the sidelines of their Christmas dinner last night.

“2018 has been positive for us. We have achieved qualification to the Champions League and with a little regret we are out but we are third in the league and we have to aim to do well in the Europa League as that is a prestigious competition,” he told Sky Sport before going on to speak about what his new CEO partner Beppe Marotta brings to the club.

“Beppe has brought his experience and with his help we can fill the gap with other realities, we want to bring Inter to the top.”

Antonello then spoke on what Inter’s financial goals are for the coming years and discussed a possible superstar signing.

“We want to be a sustainable club that is able to make the right investments to let the team grow. A signing as big as Cristiano Ronaldo will not be possible in the short term. To make such signings, it is only possible when our revenues have reached a certain level to support them. Not in the short term but in the medium-long term, Lionel Messi could be an idea, if he does not stop playing [laughs].”

He then addressed what he thinks is behind the gap between Inter and Juventus.

“The gap with Juventus comes down to two things. There is the ownership of the stadium for starters. We are working with Milan on the stadium and if we can develop a serious project then we will be able to increase our revenues. There is also the continuous participation in the Champions League. If we can do that it will increase our turnover. If our performances on the pitch improve too, sponsors will also be able to help us.”
