The Numbers Behind Inter Captain Icardi’s Evolution

Perhaps the most significant stat is the % of Inter’s total goals Icardi has scored this season compared to this time last year. At this time last season he was accountable for 55% of Inter’s goals but is now only accountable for 22% of the Nerazzurri’s goals.

Prior to the 1-0 defeat to Juventus, the game where his transformation was arguably first seen, he averaged 21.2 touches of the ball and 13.1 passes per game. In the last five games however he has averaged 35 touches and 22.6 passes per game. In the recent games with Udinese and Chievo he made more than 40 touches.

All in all this season, the 25-year-old has made 22 appearances across all competitions, scoring 13 goals and tallying two assists in the process.
