Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport confirms the ideas of the Nerazzurri regarding their transfer market strategy and that in all likelihood, Diego Godin will not be the only free transfer arriving at Inter over the summer.

For Godin, Inter are in the final stretch of negotiations according to the report: “Inter has proposed a two year contract of €5.5 million a year, he currently earns €5 million, but the player would like a three year contract, the compromise will be found with an ‘option for the third year’ for El Faraon, as they call him in Madrid. Godin decided to leave Atletico after a promise was not kept last summer, when Manchester United were ready to pay his release clause of €20 million to take him to Manchester but he refused a higher salary to stay at Atletico, with assurances he would receive a renewal which then never arrived.”

Of the players who have contracts which are about to expire, the Nerazzurri are following with interest a couple from Manchester United, namely Darmian and Valencia, as well as the Porto’s Mexican international Herrera as well as Arjen Robben, Gazzetta dello Sport continues.

The name that really excites the Inter fans is of course that of the Dutch winger. Arjen Robben is 34 years old and has a rich history of injuries and last summer he signed an annual contract renewal where he earns €4.5 million plus bonuses.

In Munich his story is over, at the moment he has offers from the Netherlands, but he could be tempted by a big club like Inter on a ‘Figo-type’ operation. He would not be expected to play 30 games, but he could make a difference in 15 games for example.

Having experienced players like Robben and Godin helps the young players to grow, which is the other side of the future of Inter.

Cagliari’s Barella and Brescia’s Tonali remain at the top of the list, along with defenders such as Sampdoria’s Andersen. In July, when the settlement agreement with UEFA is over, one can even think of at least one big purchase, probably in midfield. The dream remains in the background, of Luka Modric, the Gazzetta conclude.
