Inter Signing Of Diego Godin Will Decide Skriniar’s Future One Way Or Another

The arrival of Diego Godin at Inter opens up two possible options for Inter with regards to the future of the club’s defence, Gazzetta dello Sport reports stating that, in fact, there may be an Inter with and one without Skriniar.

In the former case, Godin would in effect take Miranda’s place, who is destined to leave in the summer, whilst in the latter case, the Uruguayan will instead start with De Vrij.

The former Sampdoria defender has a contract until the end of June 2022, but the negotiation to extend his contract’s deadline with an increased salary, has ground to a halt. Inter had offered to raise his salary from €1.7 Million to €2.5 million a year, but the Slovakian international’s agent has asked for €3 million net.

In the background there is the fact regarding the great interest that the defender has around Europe. Last summer, Inter rejected an offer from the Premier League for €70 million, and now his value has risen by at least another €20 million, according to the Gazzetta.

This is an important figure which could obviously make a huge difference for the Inter coffers.

By the end of June, the Nerazzurri must present to UEFA with evidence of €40-50 Million in capital gains to eliminate the FFP restrictions. Last summer the money was recovered by selling on the youth players, but this year, also because of the express wishes of President Steven Zhang, who is aggravated by the Zaniolo case, who has surprisingly exploded in Roma, the strategy must be different.

The result being Inter will have to sacrifice a star player and among the candidates the Gazzetta argues that Skriniar is in the front row, followed by Perisic and more unlikely, Marcelo Brozovic.

In short, the question is still the same: is it worth sacrificing Skriniar? Should he leave Inter would replace him with either Andersen or Romero, while also looking at their own players and, in particular, Alessandro Bastoni.

The Italian defender, who was born in 1999 and came up the ranks at Atalanta, was bought by Inter in 2017 and loaned first back to Atalanta then last summer to Parma and is now potentially ready to play for the Nerazzurri.

At Parma he started with an injury, but now he is very much in charge, which is why Inter wants to invest very soon on him too.
