Former Inter striker Alessandro Altobelli has chimed in with his thoughts on the ongoing situation concerning Mauro Icardi and a contract renewal with the club.

Icardi’s agent and wife Wanda Nara recently claimed that the parties are “very far away” from reaching any sort of agreement over a new deal to extend the captain’s stay with the club.

It is understood that the 25-year-old Argentine possesses high demands to prolong his contract, demands that the Nerazzurri’s management are seemingly unwilling to meet.

Altobelli, who is Inter’s second greatest goalscorer with 209 goals, behind only Giuseppe Meazza, however believes Icardi is quite right to demand a high salary as talks continue.

“He is one of the top strikers in the world and he has to earn what he is worth,” Altobelli said in an interview with Radio Sportiva.

He added, “I think it is good for him to ask for a lot.”
