Amidst the ongoing contract telenovela between Inter and Mauro Icardi, former Inter striker Alessandro Altobelli has given his thoughts on the situation.

“Inter must keep Icardi at all costs, Mauro is one of the top three or four strongest strikers in the world and I am sure he wants to stay at the Nerazzurri. He has a release clause and he could take advantage of it but I think he does not want to leave,” he insisted in an interview with Sport Mediaset

Altobelli then spoke on the money aspect of the renewal and believes Icardi is right to demand a high salary.

“Is it a matter of money? There is no doubt it is but I think it is normal. From what I have read, he earns less than €5 million per season, a low figure compared to other great world-class strikers.

“Icardi is a player who could earn €10 million a season and I say that it is good of his wife to make such high demands as Mauro is worth that money.

“In the end I believe that there will be an agreement because I am sure that Inter wants to keep him and Mauro wants to stay at Inter. In the end the money will be found and the contract will be signed.”

He concluded the interview by discussing where the 25-year-old Argentine could play if he is to leave the club.

“Icardi can play in teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United and Manchester City.”
