Antonio Di Gennaro, a former Italian international who was part of the Hellas Verona side that won the 1984/85 Serie A title, has joined many in sharing his thoughts and feelings when it comes to the status of negotiations between Inter and Mauro Icardi over a new contract.

“If you want to replace someone like him then Inter would need a player of the same level who would have a very big salary. I think that a club that is planning very well like Inter are can not lose someone like Icardi,” he remarked in an interview with RMC Sport.

“Inter has it in their mind to keep Icardi and I think there is not so much of a gap on the economic level. If everyone has the same will and agreement can be found.”

Icardi has been an integral part of Inter in recent years and has scored over 100 goals in just over 200 appearances fo the club since arriving from Sampdoria in 2013.
