Gazzetta dello Sport believe that the higher salaries Inter are willing to play players is evidence that they are on their way back to the very top.

Not since the days of Massimo Moratti has Inter had a player with a salary among the top three in Serie A but with talks scheduled with Mauro Icardi’s wife/agent to continue talks over a new and improved deal, it could be set to happen again.

Inter are now looking forward to working with the prospect of not being held back by financial fair play constraints as a result of the settlement agreement, something they will exit this Summer.

Inter freeing themselves from the shackles of the settlement agreement will be reflected in the offer that they make to Icardi. Inter previously offered Icardi a €6 million per season deal but can now do better and come closer to reaching his demands.

There is a lot of certainty around the club at the moment with everyone seemingly pulling in the same direction. President Steven Zhang for one has not hid his ambitions to take Inter back to the top while sporting director Piero Ausilio is another to have done so.

Inter’s contract offer to Diego Godin is further proof that they are on the way back to the top. The Nerazzurri have tabled a €5.5 million per season contract to the Uruguayan whose current contract with Atletico Madrid runs out at the end of the season.
