A happy ending is in sight in contract renewal talks between Inter and club captain Mauro Icardi over a new deal according to a report from Corriere dello Sport.

Some details of the deal still need ironed out with one of the main details, aside from the salary aspect, being what happens with the release clause.

He currently has a €110 million foreign club release clause in his deal and Inter would like to significantly increase this to €250 million. To get that wish granted though, they need to meet Icardi’s wife/agent Wanda’s demands for him to be paid €10 million per season. The release clause looks set to stay with it now seeming very complicated to see the clause removed entirely from his contract.

Icardi has been with Inter since 2013 and is under contract with the club through to the Summer of 2021. In 205 appearances across all competitions for the club, Icardi has scored a very impressive 121 goals and has also tallied 26 assists.
