Inter have given up on the idea of signing Porto’s Hector Herrera on a pre-contract agreement according to a report from Deportes.televisiva.com.

Having already struck a pre-contract deal with Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin, Inter do not wish to complete another deal with a high salary attached – something that Herrera is understood to be demanding.

Due to this and the lack of other offers on the table, the Mexican midfielder could perform a u-turn and sign a contract extension with current employers Porto, something that seemed impossible up until now due to him having a strong desire to test himself elsewhere after a long time in Portugal.

The 28-year-old has spent the past five and a half seasons with the Portuguese giants, who he is currently the club captain for. He has made 225 appearances to date in the famous blue and white shirt, scoring 30 goals and tallying 33 assists in the process.
