Former Milan player Alessandro Costacurta has come to the defence of Inter captain Mauro Icardi who is enduring a goal drought in Serie A.
Icardi has not scored a goal in his last seven Serie A appearances with his last goal coming against Udinese from the penalty spot in the middle of December. You have to go even further back to find the last time when he scored from open play. His last goal from open play came in Inter’s 2-2 draw away to Roma back at the beginning of December.
“I played with great strikers during my career like Andriy Shevchenko and Filippo Inzaghi who scored lots of goals but they too went weeks without scoring at times. Therefore I do not think we should exaggerate [Icardi’s situation] even if then they did not have problems related to contract renewals,” he said in an interview while as a guest on Sky Calcio Club.
