Inter coach Luciano Spalletti stopped by Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia to share his thoughts on the win in the Europa League against Rapid Vienna.
Spalletti highlighted that he was very happy with both the win and the performance and that both are equally as important.
“Both were equally important. We could have done better but we found a team that played well and had legs to hit us on the counterattack, when we lost the ball they were dangerous. The pitch was a little bit sticky today and it tired us, the players all told me at half time. This is partly why we were unable to move the ball around but we played a good game.”
The former Roma coach was asked how he thought Ivan Perisic and Radja Nainggolan did and seemed happy enough with the duo.
“We were unable to find these players in spaces, we struggled in freeing ourselves and finding space because they defended really well. Therefore it was easier to play more centrally. They did well even if maybe they lacked lucidity in the build up.”
Despite having won away Spalletti was very cautious going into the return leg next Thursday at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milano’s San Siro district.
“The most difficult situations are always faced when things seem easy, therefore we need to pay attention. Nothing changes for them, they want to play on the counterattack and so we have to pay attention to the spaces.”
In conclusion Spalletti was asked what he will say to Icardi when he meets him during training.
“I alwayd think about the next day, this way we are always ready for the following day’s work. There are no problems for me, however we will see what happens when we meet.”
