Respected journalist Mario Sconcerti has penned a column for Corriere della Sera where he examines the difficult situation of Mauro Icardi at Inter.
“Icardi’s situation at Inter had become unbearable. There has been a divide for weeks and Wanda continued to provoke the situation, a situation that is almost at breaking point,” he wrote.
“Marotta could not help but intervene and had to do so in an evident and official manner. Icardi’s agent has divided Inter almost with wisdom.
“The words of Mrs. Icardi are so direct and so strange, inopportune even, for the football world. Whoever signs Icardi will have to spend €100 million, then pay him a salary and then take on Wanda too.
“He does not say anything. What kind of behaviour is this from a courageous captain and Latin male? Is this a man who will respect he has a contract for two years?
“I have seen similar situations where the players cry with devoted wives but Icardi’s story is becoming something that you can no longer bare. He attacked the foundations of the club.
“Had Marotta not reacted, he would’ve been eaten alive by his lack of comment and brought Inter in to more darkness. This is not a technical matter but clearly an economic and disciplinary matter now. It got to Marotta.
“A player who costs a lot must be irreproachable. The air needs cleared with him scoring goals because nobody pays a lot of money to buy one problem, let alone two.”
