Inter yesterday confirmed that despite Mauro Icardi’s suggestions on social media that he is not injured but Corriere dello Sport have revealed that there is something bothering him.
Icardi posted an image of him undergoing physiotherapy on his knee and Corriere dello Sport report that he has been playing through pain in his knee due to his status as captain but having been stripped off the armband, he will no longer do so.
He intends to only return to the field once he is fully recovered and Inter management have been informed of the 25-year-old’s decision.
He will work separately to his teammates in the coming days and it cannot be ruled out that he is excluded from the squad for this weekend’s match against Sampdoria.
With his Inter future undoubtedly in the air, the Rome based newspaper suggest that should the situation not be resolved quickly, Lautaro Martinez and Keita Balde will alternate as the striker.
Should the Argentine leave the Nerazzurri during the Summer transfer window, Inter will be forced to find another striker. As per the report, they have four ideas in mind in the shape of Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku, Roma’s Edin Dzeko, Atalanta’s Duvan Zapata and RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner.
