Inter legend Andreas Brehme was interviewed by FcInterNews where he discussed the years past, the current Inter, and the situation with Icardi.
“I always think of Inter. It is a shame that the point difference between them and Juventus is so large already. This year, Inter have improved, but they have to do more in order to try and close the gap with Juventus.”
What memories do you have from your period at the club between ’88 and ’92?
“Let’s say that Inter is in my heart, but let’s talk about those years. Before, there were two Germans, then we became three. Everything has changed now, in practice, there are only foreigners.”
What about the current affairs?
“What a mess with Icardi. I do not understand Mauro. He is a great player and a very strong striker. A strong person. Let’s talk about a 26 year old man. I do not understand why he must demand the armband at all costs. Indeed, perhaps it is better for him to not be the team captain, it can become an advantage in his favor. If Spalletti and the club have made this decision, Icardi can have a free head. Here in Germany, everyone laughs at the situation. They write negatively about Inter, and the fact that everything seems to have been triggered by Wanda Nara.”
Let’s talk about the football being played, do you believe that Inter can win the Europa League?
“I hope so. If they were to reach the final, I would definitely attend the match.”
In the last 30 years there seems to have been a curse on the left wing. Apart from you and Roberto Carlos, many have failed. Is it that much of a complicated role? Or maybe you and the Brazilian are of a level that was too high?
“That’s a hard question. Indeed, even when the Nerazzurri gave Roberto Carlos to Real Madrid, I did not understand that decision. Simply because he was a champion.”
