La Repubblica have revealed the reasoning they believe why Rosario Abisso awarded Fiorentina a controversial late penalty against Inter in Sunday’s 3-3 draw.

“The monitor on the sideline showed the action from six different angles: four seemed to show that the ball, hit by Church, hit the chest of D’Ambrosio while the other two angles raised some doubt.

“Abisso had the image of what he thought he saw on the field  in his mind and that convinced him to indicate a penalty for Fiorentina. The two images that created doubt did not show enough to not trust the other four angles.

“The decision has split Italy on the use of VAR but in reality, in this situation, VAR was (almost) perfect, it was Abisso who made the mistake.”
