The penalty controversy at the end of Fiorentina-Inter has dominated the newspapers in the days since with many people chiming in with their opinions on the matter.

Some people who have not however voiced an opinion are the AIA, the Italian refereeing association. According to Corriere della Sera, this is because the AIA took a collective decision to stay silent on the matter, at least in public, due to the noise that the decision has made already.

The report from the Milan based newspaper also goes on to discuss how referee Rosario Abisso came to his decision, which ultimately cost Inter victory in Florence.

Abisso spent a considerable time reviewing the six angles that VAR showed. Four of those angles clearly showed that the ball hit only off of Danilo D’Ambrosio’s arm while it was not as easy to tell from the other two angles.

Despite there being more angles showing it did not hit D’Ambrosio’s arm than not, Abisso decided to uphold his initial judgement. In CorSera’s eyes, this was a “serious error, a human mistake, not one related to technology.”
