Mauro Icardi is putting his participation at this Summer’s Copa America at risk as he and Inter remain at loggerheads according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Argentine striker was recently stripped of the Inter captaincy and has not featured in any of Inter’s past four squads as he claims he has a knee injury that Inter’s medical staff have already denied with their tests on his knee.

Icardi will also play no part for Inter in tomorrow night’s match against Cagliari. Lautaro Martinez will continue to lead the line in Icardi’s absence but if he is to be booked and thus trigger an automatic suspension, he would really complicate matters for Spalletti.

Lautaro is Inter’s only recognised fit striker and with Keita Balde – who is capable of playing up top – also out injured.

The Milan based newspaper also report that the recent tension will have no affect on contract extension talks between Inter and Icardi.

This is due to the fact that Inter, as per the report, made a commitment to his wife/agent Wanda Icardi that a new contract would be offered.
