Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta has now spent 80 days at Inter as the chief executive and has had a real baptism of fire, Corriere dello Sport detail.

The first real issue that Marotta had to deal with was Radja Nainggolan. The Belgian midfielder was suspended due to turning up late for training several times.

During the January transfer window, Marotta decided to make Ivan Perisic’s transfer request amid interest from Arsenal public. Inter stood firm though and refused to let Perisic leave for any less than they wanted and as a result he was ‘forced’ to stick around.

Next he – and the rest of the management – took the decision to heavily fine Mauro Icardi due to returning late to training due to a mix-up with flights.

Inter also recently took the decision to strip the Argentine striker of his captain’s armband – a decision that was made for a number of reasons.

Marotta has also refused to be bullied by former Juventus colleague Fabio Paratici. Paratici spoke on the possibility of Icardi joining Juventus in the Summer and Marotta hit back with similar comments about Paulo Dybala possibly joining Inter.

On Sunday, Marotta had to deal with his first real refereeing injustice as Inter drew 3-3 away to Fiorentina. A controversial penalty was awarded to Fiorentina deep in to injury time and Marotta did not hold himself back post-match and in the days since, publicly attacking the decision.

The report from Corriere dello Sport concludes Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio is set to extend his contract through to the end of the 2020/21 season.
