The drama between Inter and Icardi is still ongoing all as Inter are in a delicate part of the season right now between all of the injuries and the threat of not qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

According to Milano based Gazzetta dello Sport it is a game of back and forth and we are still far from an end to this story.

“Perhaps Mauro Icardi recognizes that he is in a relatively strong position as Inter are eight days away from the derby and are missing crucial players. It is a game of chess and so far there is no guarantee that it will end soon and that Mauro Icardi will return for the game against Eintracht and for the derby.”

The meeting between Marotta, Wanda Nara, and lawyer Paolo Nicoletti also did not provide any breakthrough. It was a step forward, but not enough to patch things up. So what is Icardi asking for in order to return to the pitch?

“The striker no longer wants the armband back, instead he would like to have an explanation, possibly a public one about the reasons that led to him losing the captaincy and the reason it was given to Handanovic. This was firmly rejected by the club as there is no need for any explanation. He also wants a public rehabilitation in terms of reputation in order to show that he is a professional and that he does not like the idea of split dressing room.”

But the relationship with the dressing room is not ideal, to put it mildly. Icardi does not think he needs to apologize and thinks he has no major problems with most of his teammates, but that does not seem to be the case since he has avoided contact with the group for some time now. He also has a cold relationship with Spalletti. Only time will tell how this story will unfold.
