In an interview with Sky Sport, Inter coach Luciano Spalletti had the following to say about tonight’s game against AC Milan.
“This derby win, comes as a result from the game against Eintracht Frankfurt because when you go out in that fashion, and your name is Inter, people will come at you and if you don’t clarify what happened you face the risk of being left with a bad taste in your mouth.
“We need to restore roles and behaviors and bring those element back into a team attitude, forgetting absolutely everything that happened before. Then all analyses stop, I can stop thinking about them and move on to the next game. Today’s game was completely different from the one before.”
He then spoke on Matias Vecino and a few other Inter players.
“I have three of them in the middle and Matias is the one with the greatest ability to insert himself in the opponents area. He had a great game tonight, thanks to his great stride and as long has his brains tells him he does whatever he likes. He runs 14 kilometers per game without any problem.
“We need to compliment Lautaro for the penalty, Perisic’s return and Politano for the match. Great compliments for those who are present in the dressing room, very, very good. Then it is also good if you have athletes who know what is expected from them, given the moment we are going through also the fatigue of Marcelo Brozovic.”
Spalletti progressed by speaking on how important the mentality work has been.
“This is something that becomes important, when you are part of Inter you have to give news in there. With an AC Milan that plays like they do and deservedly was predicted to win, it wasn’t easy to come to this match and take the game in hand. AC Milan had a great game and Gattuso must be satisfied. When teams perform like this, anyone can win, they honoured football tonight and the Milanese people deserved a derby like this.
“The team kept a clear head. On the second goal, they take the corner quickly and the marking is a bit late, so they can score easily. On their first goal, AC Milan did great, but we can do better than that. With Skriniar and de Vrij in centre, it’s tough to score on us. ”
He concluded by speaking further on Lautaro Martinez.
“He’s good in attacking the depth, he’s string with his head and has a great personality. All it takes is to look him in the eyes in order to understand that he’s got character, he was really good on the penalty kick. We’ve found an attacker that can put things right again.”
