Milano is blue. Skriniar and De Vrij kept the pistol slinger in their pockets all night. A fired up Inter came out of the blocks hungry for points and goals to banish Milan back to 4th place, 2 points behind in the Serie A standings.
Samir Handanovic – 6: Some decent saves to make in the first half. But when Inter were under pressure his calmness seemed to disappear. Needs to attack crosses more.
Danilo D’Ambrosio – 6.5: That block in the end earns him an extra point. That is worth 2 points and much more mentally. Did defending right, messed up the attacking bit.
Stefan de Vrij – 7: Mentally very strong. After that error on Thursday he was determined to make up for it. Fantastic goal and even better defensive performance.
Milan Skriniar – 7: Quietly made his point of being the best defender in the city of Milan currently. Piatek is not easy to handle but Skriniar made it look simple.
Kwadwo Asamoah – 7: Plays a bit too timidly most times. Today, though it was what was needed. Nullified Suso to the extent that Gattuso had to make him play deeper.
Roberto Gagliardini – 6: At fault for Bakayoko’s goal. His touch was sometimes poor. But in between the injury and that he played like a proper box-to-box midfielder.
Marcelo Brozovic – 6: Didn’t look confident enough to try and take matters into his own hands. Didn’t look 100% but gave his all. On point in his positioning and passing.
Matias Vecino – 7: The best Vecino performance so far at Inter. The passing, the running and utilization of space and that goal was top class. Set the game up for Inter.
Matteo Politano – 7: All action Politano troubled Milan’s defence all night. Made the smart moves and passes for most of the game. Never lost his sense of calm.
Lautaro Martinez – 8: Lautaro will remind you of a certain 30 year old Inter bought from Genoa. The assist, the movement and the technique throughout was world class.
Ivan Perisic – 6.5: The first goal comes from his mind and vision. Ran a lot and gave a lot of help to Asamoah in shutting down Milan’s right sided attacking threat.
Borja Valero – 6: Looked tired and slow from the moment he came on. Beaten for pace without the ball, but with it he showed his masterful ability to move play.
Antonio Candreva – N/A: Brought on to give Politano some rest. Had a few runs that didn’t result in much. Helped out in defence for most of the time. No derby magic.
Andrea Ranocchia – N/A: Time wasting sub but needed as Milan were crossing from wherever they could. Brought some steel with him to help the defence in injury time.
Luciano Spalletti – 7.5: The game plan worked. The players fought for him and all is right in his world at the moment. The tiredness showed in the second half though.
Marco Guida – 6: Used VAR well. Maybe if Inter scored the goal Musacchio scored, he would have ruled it out. Other than that got most decisions right in a difficult game.
Inter – 6.5: Every Interista is wondering where this Inter has been all of 2019. If this is how Inter play from now on, the Nerazzurri will end the Serie A in second place.
Agree? Disagree? Who do you think was Inter’s best player of the night?
