Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa has spoken with Fox Sports Brazil on the difficulties he has faced in his career whilst playing in Europe.

“I was lacking opportunities. I like being part of the group and feeling important in the team but I do not think that I had the opportunity to show off,” the Brazilian striker, who is currently on loan at Flamengo, began.

He was then asked if he thinks leaving for Inter in 2016 was the right decision and why he chose Inter.

“I don’t know. I think maybe that was the right time for me to move on as I wanted to have new experiences. I decided to go to Inter due to the kindness that they had shown towards me and my family, as well as the fans who came to greet me at the airport.”

He then went on to discuss the difficulties he faced at Inter.

“I always tried to talk a lot with the coach but a  player understands when the coach is counting on them or not. I don’t know the reasons why they didn’t because in training I always looked to get involved and try to improve.

“When I played as a substitute, in my opinion, I played well. When I had some more opportunities I also scored. I really wanted a run of games.

He concluded: “At Santos and Flamengo, when I have played regularly, I always did well. I hope it can happen in a European club too. I am still at Inter so we will see if it happens there.”
