Italian football journalist Matteo Marani shared his thoughts on Mauro Icardi’s performance last night as he returned to first team action by scoring and assisting in Inter’s 4-0 rout of Genoa.

“We saw what Icardi is capable of and how he is able to change Inter,” Marani began an interview with Sky Sport.

“The most important thing he did last night was the assist for Perisic. It is a sign of a strong player who can help and make the rest of the team do well. The hug between the two for the celebration was also emphasised, as if something had been solved between them.”

Marani concluded by adding:If we look at the numbers of Inter, they have the second best defence in the league but there was a problem when it came to goals and it is clear that the absence of Icardi was having an impact. Mauro is a decisive striker, he scored 29 goals last year and without his goals would Inter have ever returned to the Champions League?”
