Gazzetta dello Sport have reviewed the refereeing performed of Maurizio Mariani during Inter’s 4-0 crushing of Genoa at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris tonight.

The Milan based newspaper believe that Mariani was particularly harsh in booking Kwadwo Asamoah who had fouled Genoa’s Antonio Sanabria just before the half hour mark.

Mariani was absolutely spot on when it came to awarding Inter a penalty after Mauro Icardi was pulled to the ground by Genoa’s Cristian Romero. Mariani was also right in sending Romero off.

The report goes on to reveal that there was a silent VAR check for Inter’s third goal to confirm Mauro Icardi’s position and it confirmed that he was onside before going on to play Ivan Perisic through.

Finally, Mariani awarded Inter a fourth goal as Roberto Gagliardini headed just over the line right at the end of the game and goal line technology confirmed his decision was the right one.
