Gazzetta dello Sport have likened Inter striker Mauro Icardi to Iceman, the character played by Val Kilmer in 1986 film Top Gun ahead of tonight’s match between Inter and Atalanta at San Siro.
“Being ice cold obviously helps in the most daring of manoeuvres, and in the most incandescent contexts, but the other side of the coin is often a certain inability to empathise, which makes someone seem a little too distant,” the report begins.
“This tag is something that has been assigned to Mauro in the past months, when it seemed natural that he would take a step back towards his teammates, when everyone was expecting it but Mauro is seemingly so impassable.
“For this reason he has come under attack by those who feel he has betrayed them. Inter-Atalanta tonight will be an important double test in this regard. Firstly, it will be a test to show how strong Mauro is if the Meazza is to turn on him and secondly to show how popular he is.”
