Legendary Inter defender Tarcisio Burgnich has revealed he was sold to Napoli without being told anything about the move.
The Italian spent some 12 years with Inter and made well over 300 appearances but was controversially moved on to Napoli in 1974, where he would spend three years before calling time on his playing career.
“I went to Appiano to train and I was surprised when I met Franco Janich, the Napoli sports director, who came to meet me smiling and said: ‘Now you are one of ours, we will do great things together,'” he began an interview with Il Mattino.
“Inter had moved me on without telling me. I didn’t have any problems and I wasn’t a boy any more but you tell me what that says about Inter…”
Burgnich, who was part of the Grande Inter side, then spoke fondly on his manager at the time Helenio Herrera.
“He changed my life. He was a very tough guy. You either listened to what he said or you could not get along with him. Having been very poor himself, he always urged us not to throw away the money that we earned.”
