In three weeks the situation between Inter and Milan regarding San Siro will be clearer. International consultants are now helping the two Milanese giants secure their future, with permission to go-ahead with their plans of building a new stadium hopefully coming by the end of the season, according to a report from Corriere dello Sport.

Renovating San Siro would cost €550 million and would of been extremely complicated, given the two to three years that would of been needed to complete a project and both clubs would be without a stadium of equal prestige and capacity to play in for that time.

Furthermore the stadium would not have been able to match the standards of today’s newly built stadiums because the possibility of developing the surrounding area with shopping centres, apartments and hotels is limited. Hence the decision to focus on a new build which will cost around €700 million.

A modern facility with restaurants, underground car parks, business venues and all of the above. A stadium able to function seven days a week. The new stadium will be erected on the land next to San Siro, which is currently just a car park, but in order to maximise use of the space, the San Siro would need to be torn down.

Completion of the new stadium would take about four years. One and half to get authorisation and another two or three to complete the work.

In theory Milan and Inter could start playing in their new home starting the 2023/24 season or perhaps the following one but it remains to be confirmed if the council will accept these plans, since they would prefer the renovation of San Siro.
