Mauro Icardi and Ivan Perisic are both expected to play their final match as Inter players on Sunday when the Nerazzurri play Empoli.
Luciano Spalletti’s side need to win to guarantee Champions League qualification after a disastrous second half of the season characterised by off-pitch chaos and dressing room infighting.
Icardi and Perisic have both played leading roles in the farce, with the former being stripped of the captain’s armband and the latter asking to be sold to Arsenal in January.
“Who knows what Inter we would have seen this season if those two had been playing to their potential instead of arguing all the time,” Gazzetta dello Sport lamented today.
“Spalletti has received 21 goals fewer from them compared to last season, so it’s not surprising Inter as a whole have scored 11 fewer than they had at this stage 12 months ago.”
Icardi continues to be linked with a sensational move to Inter’s arch rivals Juventus while Perisic remains hopeful of securing a move to the Premier League.
Maurito told Inter supporters last week he wanted to stay with a post on Instagram, but his absence from the club’s photo shoot for next season’s kit and his disappearance from Suning’s website – where he has been replaced by Danilo D’Ambrosio – has caused suspicion.
“What’s for sure is that nobody wants to live through another season like this,” Gazzetta said.
