Radja Nainggolan spoke with Rai Sport following Inter’s 2-1 win over Empoli on the final day of the 2018/19 Serie A season.
“It was a difficult match for us. In the first half we could have taken a wide lead. I am sorry for Empoli, who showed they deserve to stay in Serie A,” he started.
“They have quality players and have achieved some great results lately and we must congratulate them as they have played a great game against us.”
He then reflected on Inter’s season, focusing particularly on their performances in Europe.
“In the Champions League I wouldn’t say we failed as we finished on the same points as Tottenham and they are in the final although the match against PSV was our fault.
“The Europa League was a bit disappointing but it came at a particularly difficult time of the season for us.
“This qualification on the other hand, when you take the whole season into consideration, I think is deserved. In the last ten minutes they threw everything at us but got nothing as we have the strongest goalkeeper in the league, who has proven that when we needed him most.
The management knows what they have to do. As a group we can do something better too. All the incidents that happened, should be avoided going forward because they have an impact on the team and the environment.
