Mateo Kovacic could make a return to Inter during the upcoming Summer transfer window according to a report from Tuttosport.

Newly appointed Inter manager Antonio Conte strongly rates the Croatian midfielder and believes that he will be able to relieve Marcelo Brozovic of some responsibilities or fill in for him.

He could play as a regista in Conte’s 3-5-2 system or as a playmaker if Inter are to play in a 3-4-2-1.

Kovacic has spent the past season on loan at Premier League club Chelsea, but due to Chelsea’s looming transfer ban, they are unable to take up a purchase option on him therefore he will return to Real Madrid.

Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane is understood to not view Kovacic as part of his plans and Real could loan him out again with a right to redemption, the report states.

The 25-year-old midfielder spent two seasons with Inter between 2013-2015 and made 97 appearances for the club before departing for the Spanish club.
