Inter want €16 million to sell midfielder Joao Mario this summer amid interest from Monaco and Sporting CP, according to Sport Mediaset.

The Portuguese international made 20 league appearances under Luciano Spalletti last season, scoring one goal and providing three assists in another disappointing campaign.

Mario has never lived up to the hype which accompanied his arrival after joining for €45 million in 2016, and was even sent home from training in May amid accusations of lacking commitment.

Inter would happily sell the player in the coming weeks but need €16 million to avoid making a net loss on the 26-year-old.

Sport Mediaset also provided updates on the rest of the Nerazzurri’s transfer dealings, announcing Nicolo Barella will complete his move from Cagliari next week.

Piero Ausilio met with Rossoblu sporting director Marcello Carli yesterday and reached an agreement on the midfielder’s overall value, thought to be €45 million.

The clubs must now decide which players Cagliari will receive as part of the deal, with Federico Dimarco, Alessandro Bastoni and Eder all in contention.

Barella’s agent Alessandro Beltrami met Antonio Conte in Milan last night and received confirmation of the new Inter boss’s admiration for his client.

Inter should also complete a deal to sign Edin Dzeko from Roma next week, but have seen Manchester United reject their offer of a swap deal involving Mauro Icardi and Romelu Lukaku.
