Inter will offer midfielder Joao Mario to Sporting Lisbon in a bid to win the race for Bruno Fernandes, according to Sport Mediaset.
Tottenham remain favourites to sign the 24-year-old as they are willing to pay €40 million for him, but Inter will attempt to turn the tables by pushing Mario towards his former club.
Mario joined Inter in 2016 and has failed to live up to his €40 million price tag, spending six months on loan at West Ham in 2018.
Fernandes played 81 minutes on Sunday as Portugal won the first ever edition of the UEFA Nations League, beating the Netherlands 1-0 thanks to Gonzalo Guedes’ second-half strike.
After the match he told reporters he was pleased to see his name linked with Inter but admitted he didn’t know if the club’s interest was real.
The midfielder scored 32 goals and provided 18 assists for Sporting during the 2018-19 season, including three goals and two assists in the UEFA Europa League.
He has also made 11 appearances for the Portuguese national team since making his senior debut back in November 2017, scoring once in a 1-1 friendly draw against the United States.
