Danilo D’Ambrosio’s agent sprung to his client’s defence last night but claiming he would be more popular among Inter supporters if he had an exotic name.

D’Ambrosio played a crucial role in helping Inter securing Champions League qualification for the second season running, making last-minute goal-line clearances against Milan and Empoli.

The 30-year-old continues to split opinion among Inter supporters, though, leading Vincenzo Pisacane to stand up for him when speaking to Radio Marte.

“Danilo has always proved he’s an important player,” Pisacane said.

“His numbers speak for themselves. He created more assists and recovered the ball more than any other full-back in Serie A last season.

“If his name was D’Ambrosinho he’d get better recognition in the media, although thankfully he’s appreciated at Inter.”

Sky Sport reported on Wednesday Inter were considering extending D’Ambrosio’s contract until 2022, holding a first meeting with Pisacane in Milan.

The parties agreed to meet again in the coming weeks.
