Inter remain closely interested in Sassuolo midfielder Stefano Sensi despite the player preferring a move to Milan, according to Tuttosport.

Sensi was quoted yesterday as telling a group of Rossoneri supporters he ‘hoped’ to join Milan, who made their move long before Inter.

Their offer to Sassuolo of a two-year loan with an obligation to buy for €15 million, however, is unlikely to be accepted.

Inter are looking for an alternative to Nicolo Barella as talks with Cagliari progress very slowly, but Sensi could also represent a replacement for Borja Valero.

The 34-year-old has interest from clubs in Spain but Sky Sport also linked him with a return to Fiorentina last night.

Sensi made 28 appearances for Sassuolo during the 2018-19 season as Roberto De Zerbi’s side secured an 11th-place finish.

The Italian scored twice and created four assists and he could now be poised for a big-money move by way of reward.
