Inter and Milan’s planning application document for their new San Siro is more than 750 pages long, the city council revealed today.

Both clubs want to knock down the current stadium and build a more modern version where the car park is located.

A so-called ‘Technical and Economic Feasibility Study’ was submitted to the council today, marking the first official step in their project.

“The document we’ve received is extremely long and will therefore require a close analysis from the council and its technicians,” the council said in a statement quoted by Ansa.

“Only having completed that analysis will we be able to pass judgment for the first time.”

Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala is opposed to Inter and Milan’s plans, not least because San Siro is due to host the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Sala has repeatedly stated the ground cannot be touched until after the games have finished, but that would mean waiting seven years before starting work.

The road towards finding an agreement that satisfies all parties is likely to be very long.
