Inter officially began negotiations with Manchester United for Romelu Lukaku today, according to Sky Sport.

Piero Ausilio met the Red Devils’ management in London and presented a €70 million offer, structured as a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

United will provide a response on both the fee and the payment structure in the coming hours, or in the next few days at the latest.

The TV station described the first round of talks as ‘cordial and open-ended’, as Inter pursue Antonio Conte’s no. 1 transfer target.

The Nerazzurri will play United in Singapore on 20 July, as Conte’s side get their International Champions Cup campaign underway.

Lukaku hopes he will be wearing Inter’s shirt for that fixture, although he remains in Australia as United continue preseason preparation.

The forward missed training on Thursday evening with Anthony Martial, alongside whom he completed ‘alternative gym-based activity’.

Inter today laid the groundwork for what they hope will become one of the most expensive signings in their history.
