Inter’s summer standoff with Mauro Icardi shows no sign of ending anytime soon, Gazzetta dello Sport confirmed this morning.

Icardi is taking part in preseason training under Antonio Conte this week, but the Nerazzurri’s former captain is being excluded from all tactical exercises and won’t feature against Lugano on Sunday.

Beppe Marotta wants to swap Icardi with Paulo Dybala but Juventus are not interested, while Icardi and Wanda Nara do not intend to join Napoli.

“Icardi’s cohabitation with Conte offers nothing but bread and water,” Gazzetta said.

“Inter hope he finds a new address soon because time is ticking and their embarrassment is rising.”

Icardi’s value has already halved since Christmas but his price would plummet even further should he stay beyond this summer’s transfer window.

The striker could remain on the sidelines and leave on a free transfer when his contract expires in 2021, but it is unlikely he would stay on the fringes for that long.

Juventus remain the only club Icardi would consider joining and the most probable scenario is that they will sign him on the cheap towards the end of August.
