Inter’s former midfielder Alessandro Altobelli celebrated the 37th anniversary of Italy winning 1982 FIFA World Cup on Thursday.

Altobelli scored the Azzurri’s third and final goal at the Santiago Bernabeu, rounding off a 3-1 win over Germany and securing their third world title.

The game is most commonly remembered for Marco Tardelli’s wide-eyed celebration after scoring at the start of the second half.

“We were a perfect machine,” Altobelli recalled on Instagram.

“Thank you to all our coaches: Bearzot, Maldini, Vicini, all the masseurs and medical staff… it was everybody’s victory.

“A special thanks to the President of the Republic Sandro Pertini too. Campioni del Mondo!”
