Inter received an unlikely good luck message from AC Milan’s former owner Silvio Berlusconi yesterday.

The Nerazzurri are preparing to make their International Champions Cup debut against Manchester United on Saturday, having appointed Antonio Conte as their new head coach.

Berlusconi, who now owns Serie C club Monza, told numero-diez.com their prospects were encouraging for the new season, before unexpectedly giving them his blessing.

“It seems to me that Inter are improving again,” the Rossoneri legend said at a sponsorship event.

“Given they’re one of the teams representing ‘my’ Milan, I can only wish them well from the bottom of my heart.”

Berlusconi sold Milan to Chinese businessman Li Yonghong in the summer of 2017, before the club passed into the hands of the Elliott Management Corporation twelve months later.

Monza recorded a fifth-place finish during his first season in charge, but Cristian Brocchi’s were knocked out of the play-offs at the last 16 stage by Imolese.

Milan won 29 trophies during Berlusconi’s 31 years as president, including eight Serie A titles and five UEFA Champions League triumphs.
