Inter are expected to make a decisive step towards signing Edin Dzeko when Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio return to Italy on Friday.

Corriere dello Sport this morning confirmed reports elsewhere that claimed the pair had met Antonio Conte, along with first team technical manager Lele Oriali, for additional transfer talks yesterday.

Roma are likely to complete a deal to sign Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus towards the weekend and this would free up the Bosnian to join the Nerazzurri.

Conte criticised Inter’s lack of transfer activity last week and is desperate for the club to sign a forward in short order.

Inter will attempt to give Conte a new signing as soon as possible after Marotta and Ausilio fly home from China, but that could also be Lille’s Rafael Leao and not Dzeko.

A lot of other European clubs are interested in the 20-year-old but Inter are confident they have accumulated an advantage over their competition, albeit they intend to spend no more than €35 million.

Marotta is looking for a younger player to arrive alongside Dzeko and Conte believes Leao is ‘an interesting prospect’.

Conte does not think the Portuguese under-21 international is as ready to play up front for Inter as Romelu Lukaku would be, but the Belgian seems very difficult to sign now.
