Antonio Conte Confident Inter Will Complete Squad Before New Season

Antonio Conte last night assured he was confident Inter would complete their piecemeal squad before the start of the new season.

Inter have yet to sign a striker for their new head coach and now have just three weeks until the Serie A campaign begins.

However, Conte was in no mood to panic after yesterday’s International Champions Cup match with Tottenham, which the Nerazzurri won on a penalty shoot-out.

“There are gaps in our squad, but despite this I’m very confident the club can complete it in the best way possible,” he told reporters at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“I understand the transfer market is not simple, but I don’t know anything about what’s happening and I’m just thinking about working.

“I’m trying to improve the group of players I have available and give them a mentality, despite the difficulty of these prestige matches.”

Inter seem destined to miss out on Romelu Lukaku after Manchester United failed to lower their asking price for the Belgian.

Conte also warned supporters against thinking the Belgian was guaranteed to join Juventus, though, advising caution until anything became official.

He said: “At first it seemed Lukaku was a done deal for Inter, and then it seemed like that with Juventus. My experience leads me to say that the market is strange, though.

“Until a player has signed on the dotted line and the two clubs have agreed a deal you can’t say that you’ve signed him.

“I saw that there were reports about Napoli now as well, but the bottom line is that Lukaku is still in Manchester. I’ve read about the possible swap with Paulo Dybala in the newspapers but I don’t know what will happen.

“For sure we’re talking about a player I wanted when I was coaching Chelsea. We’re also talking about two great clubs in Juventus and Inter, though.”
