Davide Merola officially completed a move from Inter to Empoli tonight.
The forward was already training with the Serie B side but his departure had not yet been properly announced by the Nerazzurri.
Merola made 32 appearances in all competitions for Inter’s Primavera side last season, scoring 12 goals and creating three assists.
“FC Internazionale Milano announces the permanent transfer of Davide Merola to Empoli,” a statement on the club’s website read.
“The 19-year-old forward developed in the Nerazzurri’s Elite Academy and was the under-17 league’s top scorer in the 2016-17 campaign when Inter won the Supercoppa.
“He then moved up to the under-19s and was part of the side that won the Scudetto, Viareggio Cup and Supercoppa.”
Merola’s most eye-catching goal last season during a 4-2 win against Tottenham in the UEFA Youth League, before Armando Madonna’s side were eliminated at the group stage.
The youngster’s contract was due to expire next summer, meaning Inter had no option but to sell him on a permanent deal.
