Valentino Lazaro today assured Inter supporters he had joined the club to win trophies.

The midfielder completed a move from Hertha Berlin last month and was recruited to play at wing-back in Antonio Conte’s 3-5-2 system.

He scored three goals and created seven assists in the Bundesliga last season, helping Pal Dardai’s side to an 11th-place finish.

“Hertha was a great club for me as well but Inter have an international dimension,” Lazaro told Transfermarkt.

“Naturally our ambitions and the expectation levels are very different. Inter want to win Serie A and the Champions League.”

Thursday’s leading sports papers suggested Lazaro was likely to start on the bench when Conte’s side play Lecce on Monday.

Asked about the Nerazzurri’s league opener, he said: “It’s difficult to know whether I’ll start. Everyone played 45 minutes in our last match but in training I have the impression I could start.

“Whether I will play the full 90 minutes remains to be seen.”

Lazaro also had words of praise for his new teammate Romelu Lukaku, who became Inter’s most expensive signing ever earlier this month.

“He’s an exceptional guy who makes you laugh a lot,” Lazaro concluded.

“Lukaku is like ice on the pitch though. He knows what our goal is and could do very, very well for us.”
