Inter have made far more progress under Antonio Conte this summer than Juventus and AC Milan have with their new coaches, according to Gazzetta dello Sport’s Luigi Garlando.

The Nerazzurri made a spectacular start to their Serie A campaign on Monday night by beating Lecce 4-0 at San Siro.

Garlando joked that Marcelo Brozovic’s opening goal, scored in the same minute as Giorgio Chiellini’s goal against Parma (21), was a sign of Conte’s determination to match and overhaul Juventus this season.

“Inter look like Conte’s side much more than Juventus and Milan look like Sarri or Giampaolo sides,” he wrote in a column this morning.

“While Juventus and Milan did not include any new signings in their starting XIs, Conte picked Stefano Sensi and Romelu Lukaku and both of them scored.

“But it’s in the principles underlying their style of play that Inter have made a clean break from their past.”

Conte has vowed to make Inter less ‘pazza’ and more normal and last night’s comfortable victory was a positive sign in that direction.

“Dominating matches and finishing them off without making life hard for themselves is a rarity in Inter’s recent history,” Garlando continued.

“The determination with which they looked for the third goal is a new development, and this is where Conte has already extracted something extra from the team in terms of its mentality.

“Look at Antonio Candreva. He’s often been crucified by the crowd at San Siro but he’s got his confidence back and the goal he scored proves it.

“Conte is right: there is still a gap with Juventus and Napoli, but their chase has begun well.”
