Inter have run out of time to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to Lazio’s sporting director Igli Tare.
The Nerazzurri have been heavily linked with a move for the Serbian this month as they sought another midfielder in the transfer market.
Beppe Marotta has followed Milinkovic-Savic since his days working for Juventus, but there are only 72 hours left until the window shuts now.
Asked if it was too late for Inter to make Lazio a €74 million offer for the midfielder, Tare told Tuttomercatoweb: “I think so.
“I believe he is one of the two best midfielders in Europe and he must therefore be treated as such. Someone like Milkinkovic-Savic can be sold in an opportune moment, you need time.
“But we’re talking about hot air at the moment. We haven’t received any offers so it doesn’t make sense to stoke anyone’s fantasies.
“Sergej is very attached to Lazio and he’s demonstrating that with his performances. He has a long contract with four years left and things are clear both for us and for him about what our path will be together.”
Tare admitted Lazio received an ‘almost serious’ interest for Milinkovic-Savic this summer, but he refused to reveal which club it came from.
“I don’t know about Paris Saint-Germain, there were a few things that could have progressed but which in the end didn’t come to anything,” he added cryptically.
“Sergej can have the ambition to play for a top club, there’s nothing bad about that. We’ll be happy to have him for as long as he stays at Lazio, though.”
