Treble winning star Diego Milito spoke to international media outlet 90min about his thoughts on young striker Lautaro Martinez and the famous treble winning season, before touching on the future of the club.

When asked about 22-year-old Argentinian forward Lautaro Martinez’s future with the national team, he was optimistic.

“It is clear that he is a great player and I have no doubt that he will do very well with our national team. He needs time and to play as much as possible to gain as much experience as possible. That’s what he needs today.”

Milito then spoke of his brace against Bayern Munich in the 2010 Champions League final, and if that game was the most important of his career.

“Yes, of course. For a lot of reasons, what it meant to play in a Champions League final, what it meant for Inter at the time and for me personally. It was an unparalleled game.”

Looking back at the Semi-final of that Champions League run, Milito was nostalgic.

“It was a great joy for Inter to qualify for the final after 45 years. The whole Inter world wanted it: the fans, the club, the President. An extraordinary feat against what was the best team in the world, with the best player in the world [Lionel Messi]. It was something really important.”

Then, he spoke of coach Jose Mourinho’s role in that season.

“He was fundamental, he was our reference, our commander. A coach who gave us all the tools to achieve what was achieved that year.”

Finally, Milito reflected on Inter’s failure to recapture that success and the future of the club.

“The club has had many changes, above all the ownership with the departure of Moratti. You could never achieve stability during that time and remain competitive.”

“Today, with the Suning group, Zhang found the direction the club needed. I would like this to be Inter’s year.”
