Milan Mayor Beppe Sala Pushes Inter & AC Milan To ‘Speed Up’ New Stadium Project

The mayor of Milan Beppe Sala is pushing Inter and AC Milan to speed up their actions regarding the proposed projects for the new stadium, Milano based newspaper the Corriere della Seran reports.

Sala is keen for the two clubs to share all the proposed projects to the fans and general public before a final decision is made and implores both Inter and AC Milan to allow public opinion to be included in the discussions of which project to pursue.

A precedent for the inclusion of public opinion without a referendum has already been set, the report explains, with recent examples signed off by Sala such as the reopening of the Navigli.

The mayor is due to have a face-to-face meeting with both clubs next week to examine the process and discuss the option of public inclusion. The meeting with also address another controversial issue, that of the index of 0.35 for the San Siro area.

The law on stadiums that Inter and AC Milan have chosen allows double the area to an index of 0.70, creating space for the stadium plus an area dedicated to shopping and entertainment.
